The incredible part of movies is that they transport you to another place. Good movies not only visually engage you, but emotionally engage you as well, which culminates into an engaging experience. Some movies do a memorable job of placing its setting at the forefront, which can stir a viewer's wanderlust.
The Time in Between - Morocco and Madrid, Spain
Okay, so maybe this isn't a movie. However, it's a visually engaging series that's available on Netflix. It's about a young seamstress who, for one reason or another, finds herself in beautiful Morocco and then, for other reasons, winds up in Madrid as an spy for the Allies during WWII.
Leap Year - Ireland
Honestly, I could watch this adorable rom com again and again just to see the gorgeous Irish countryside. Seriously, my eyes popped out of their sockets with the green landscape. Amy Adams is wonderful, as per usual.
The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel - India
I would give this movie 3.5/5 stars. However, I think that it's a nice way for non Indians to get a glimpse of India through the eyes of other non Indians (e.g., Maggie Smith's character). India is a complicated country with an even more complicated culture, or cultures I should say. Hence, seeing how foreigners try to make sense of it could be both enlightening and humorous.
Ocean's Eleven - Las Vegas
Okay, you should watch Ocean's Eleven because it's awesome. However, as someone who has been visiting Las Vegas since she was a toddler, I can say that this movie will make you want to jump on a plane and go however, please don't do a heist. I love that the movie balanced out shots of the insides of a casino as well as the infamous skyline.
Sherlock - London, England
Again, this is a series as opposed to a movie. However, as its fans will begrudgingly tell you, it a very short series (i.e., only three episodes per season). I love that London is showcased in such a way that it is just as important as the characters. What's more, since this is a modern adaptation, you can see London as it is today.
Interview with a Vampire - Louisiana
This rather gory and gothic movie is an experience to watch (as is the book to read). You are transported to the Antebellum South with its many shortcomings and its architectural beauty, from plantation homes to New Orleans.
Which movies ignite your wanderlust?
Best Wishes,
