Space Travel at the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida

Looking for a fun and interestingly unique day trip from Orlando? Read on!

OVERVIEW: The Kennedy Space Center is a truly unique place to visit in Florida. Sure, you got your beaches like Destin and Miami and your tourist traps like Orlando (before you judge, yes, I've been to both the Disney Resort parks and Universal Studio parks and love them), but the Kennedy Space Center is on its own level. I actually had been here before when I was in middle school and still living in California. My memories are a bit hazy, but I do remember being in awe of my experience here and the second time around was just as good. To be honest, this place makes for a really riveting experience because they really get you pumped about space travel and proud for what NASA/America has accomplished.

WHAT TO EXPECT: It takes roughly an hour to drive to from Orlando and they have a rather large parking lot. Please note, there is a parking charge of $10 for private vehicles. The entrance fee is steep with $50 for adults and $40 for children. It's worth it. Your admission includes everything from meeting an astronaut to a general bus tour. Take it from me, The Kennedy Space Center is an entire day kind of thing, so take your own sweet time moseying through all of the exhibits, meeting an astronaut (highly recommending, it's fascinating and our guy was hilarious) and taking a bus ride to the Apollo/Saturn V Center.

WHAT TO WEAR: Dress for comfort. You're going to be doing a LOT of walking and picture taking, especially if there are a lot of people. We got lucky and didn't have to wait in long lines, but do come prepared. If anything, make sure you have comfy shoes and a cardigan, as the interior exhibits can get kinda cold.

YOUR EXPERIENCE: You will come away with so much knowledge of space travel and what it really takes to shoot for the stars. The Kennedy Space Center is unique and special in that all of their rockets and equipment are NOT models, but the real thing! They have originals from the Apollo missions and fully intact space shuttles and rockets here. Indeed, all of the pictures of the rockets and such you see above have at some point been in space! So take it all in, be patient and read those plaques that everyone usually ignores in museums because all of the exhibits are incredibly fascinating and worth your time to learn about.

Best Wishes,
