Visiting the Miraflores Locks of the Panama Canal

The first thing to come to anybody's mind when the word Panama comes up is the Panama Canal (Canal de Panama). Suffice to say, this engineering marvel was at the top of the itinerary. Since the canal is open all year round, we decided to visit it during Christmas Day (the museum and viewing area closed at 5:00 pm).

Experience: The view of the Miraflores Locks was beautiful and we were fortunate that it was an equally beautiful day. As you can see at the bottom picture, there was a boat getting through the lock, which was pretty cool to watch. I also enjoyed the museum because as awesome it is to see the Canal, it doesn't have any meaning (to me at least) if I don't know what's going on. The different exhibits and information boards inside the museum did a nice job of explaining just what happens at each of the three locks and thus gave me a better understanding and appreciation of the Panama Canal.

Visit: The tickets were $15.00 per adult. Entrance will get you into the short film, viewing platform, and museum. The short film gives you a nice introduction of the history of the Canal and you have a Spanish and English option. There are also three levels of the viewing platform, so you have several options for viewing the Canal. As for the museum, it is four stories and the exhibits are in both Spanish and English.

Would you visit the Panama Canal?

Best Wishes,

The Pseudo Southerner
