Book Review: All the Way by Andy Behrens

STARS : 3.8/5 GENRE : Contemporary, Young Adult (YA) AUTHOR : Andy Behrens Wow, it has almost been two months since my last book review that I did on Fight Club . I've read several other books between then and now but I thought that I would shake things up on the blog with this cute and fun contemporary YA. SUMMARY (NO SPOILERS) : Ian is a nice boy who just can't seem to get out of the friend zone, which is really frustrating for a boy whose best friend (in this case named Lance) is a total lady's man. 5 Things I Love about NOLA

1) The people In my opinion, the people literally and figuratively make the place. In NOLA, you will not only experience legendary Southern hospitality at its finest, but also find yourself engaging in meaningful conversations with the locals. My sister and I dropped into a bookstore in the French Quarter and at checkout, the lady at the counter told me how she fell in love with Isaak Dineson (I had bought an old copy of Out of Africa ) as a little girl. 2) The culture Unlike the rest of America, which was had been a British colony, Louisiana had been a French one . As a result, you'll see French influence everywhere. In fact, the state is broken up into parishes as opposed to counties and it's not unusual to see French translations on signage. The French Quarter provides an architectural history of the city and gives you insight into the NOLA of the past. Venture out of the tourist zone though to see the NOLA of today. 3) The food Sno cones, beignets, and gum

Hiking at a National Park? Bring These Things

I talk waay too much about the National Parks because they are drop dead gorgeous. Of course, unlike in the big city, you can't do your average sightseeing and shopping because the focus is different. When you're in such a beautiful space it only makes sense to hike and see more of it. However, depending on the duration and level of difficulty of the hike, it helps to be prepared, especially if you don't hike that often. American National Parks do a great job of informing travelers about the different types of trails, which can help you pick one accordingly. Visitor Centers are generally located right at the main entrance of the parks and it's as easy as popping your head into the one at the park you're visiting to ask some questions. Some even have a dedicated desk for people wanting to go on excursions (thank you Bryce). But what happens once you've picked your trail and made sure the weather's on your side? What should you bring? 1
